A new home,
without losing our roots.

The Bhutanese Community Association of Akron helps Bhutanese-Nepali families build a life in North Hill — and keeps our language, traditions, and community alive across generations.

Our Mission

Welcoming families, preserving heritage

The Bhutanese Community Association of Akron (BCAA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2009 by members of Akron's growing Bhutanese-Nepali refugee community.

Our purpose is to facilitate and promote the smooth transition and integration of people of Bhutanese origin into life in the United States — while helping families hold on to the language, faith, and traditions that bind us together.

Many of our neighbors arrived after spending years, sometimes decades, in refugee camps in eastern Nepal. They resettled in Akron's North Hill neighborhood, which today is home to one of the largest Bhutanese-Nepali communities in the country. BCAA exists so that no family has to navigate a new country alone.

What We Do

How we help

Newcomer support

Helping recently arrived families find their footing — navigating housing, work, schools, healthcare, and everyday public services in a new country.

Cultural celebrations

Organizing community festivals, religious and seasonal gatherings, and events that keep Bhutanese-Nepali traditions alive for the next generation.

Bringing generations together

Connecting youth with their heritage and supporting elders, so that culture is passed on and no member of our community feels isolated.

A bridge to Akron

Serving as a link between Bhutanese-Nepali families and local schools, agencies, and partners across the wider Akron community.
